Red Cement by Ger Costelloe (Ireland)

From a young age, music was always a great passion and my family is steeped in a musical tradition that reaches well back into the generations.

With local Limerick band The Outfit, Other band members and myself forged a unique reggae sound that won many critics over during their formative years. Later, I went on to play with the O’Malleys who enjoyed some success in the Irish charts and still command a loyal following around Limerick and other parts of the country.

My reason for wanting to be a part of the family of World Citizens Artists is simple. I want to see a world where unity in diversity is respected and celebrated.

My song 'The Dying Soldier' was recorded by legendary Irish singer Christy Moore and appears on his best selling album Ride On. Not content with focusing solely on song writing,

I composed the soundtrack for HBO documentary, The McCourts of New York, and another for a documentary film produced by local NYPD officer Conor McCourt entitled 4 Cops.

Although these were enjoyable experiences for me, it is in the more intimate, personal act of writing and performing my own songs that the greater appeal lies.

Influenced by blues artists such as Lightning Hopkins, reggae greats like Burning Spear and folk legends like Sandy Denny, I have forged a distinctive sound all of his own. Having toured Europe both as a solo artist and with various groups, and having lived abroad for years himself, my music refuses to fit precisely into any one genre but is perhaps most notable for its honesty and vibrancy.

Featuring songs written, produced and performed solely, my debut solo album Letting in Water is the work of a mature, talented, dedicated songwriter, a veteran of his craft hitting top form at the right time.
